A Cornish Convict in Colonial Australia

Today is Australia Day, so here is some information about my Australian ancestress.

Honor Polkinghorne was baptized on 28 December 1806 in Phillack, Cornwall.1 She married Thomas Tremelling on 24 May 1828 in Phillack.2 She was widowed in 1836.3 She was on trial on 30 December 1846 in Penzance, Cornwall.4 She was given a seven-year sentence for stealing money.5 She was transferred to Millbank Prison in London, England on 22 January 1847.4

Honor Tremelling left Eng. aboard the Tory with 169 other female convicts.5 The Tory reached Van Diemen’s Land on 6 August 1848.5 She married James Spackman on 27 July 1852 in Hobart, Van Diemen’s Land.6 She was buried on 21 March 1884 in Meredith, Victoria.7
